There's plenty of room for a 29" wheel. The attached pic shows a Bonty Jones 2.2" tyre on a 26" wheel. There is 70mm of clearance above the tyre and 18mm either side.
A 29" wheel only requires an 38mm extra.
IIRC the a-c on these forks would be similar to a fully sagged 80mm 29er sus. fork though generally an 80mm sus. corrected rigid 29er fork would have an a-c of 480mm. I think!

The cromoto 29er fork has an a-c of 465mm.
Handling would be slightly quicker with these but it depends on what you are trying to achieve. I bought these to turn my Dean into a 69er, though plans have now changed.

I stand corrected! Definitely would give you a razor sharp ride on a 29er, but as you say depends what you're trying to achieve (and what frame they're going mating with course)
