I've been looking for a drop bar project for some time so when a friend offered up an Ala Carte, I couldn't resist. If you've ever broached one of these builds, then you know they can be somewhat "quirky" to get them correct so a special thanks and shout out to Rumpfy for his infinite wisdom and guidance along the way!
The frame serial number is SM23791 and is of 1995 production. Critical dims are 1-1/8" head tube, 17.75" seat tube C-C and a 22.25" TT C-C.
It came a little rough, so it was powder coated white and painted in a traditional "Jelly-Bean." I was super lucky to get an uber rare Salsa P10 in 1 1/8", two sets of WTB bars and two sets of NOS DKG Shift Ease plates (similar to the elusive WTB shifter mounts) that allow you, with slight modification, to mount Rapid Fire shifters. The mounting holes have to be drilled out to accept a long M6 bolt. Mounting the shifter plates to the bars which are 23.8mm in diameter require the use of cobbling mounting bands from old Suntour Command 7 speed shifters. I had an extra M900 kit set aside for the right project so that was a no-brainer for me. Through some great forum members I found a sweet Bontrager Comp fork with a 1 1/8" steerer. I stripped it down and painted the legs a flat black and scored a repro decal by Gil. Below are the specs and final build pics to come next week after her maiden voyage.
