Saddle renovation/restoration. Should I take it further?

Should Peachy offer saddle restoration to a wider audience?

As a pocket money side hustle, it would probably be fine 90% of the time, if it's something you enjoy. It's a very niche market, so I would be surprised if it was ever anything more than that. But every so often, there will be a difficult, rude or dishonest customer, and then you will wonder if it's worth it. Your answer will depend on how tolerant, patient and thick-skinned you are. It might be best to make an honest assessment of how you are on those scores before going ahead rather than after. However, your work on the saddles pictured looks brilliant, so I would fully expect reasonable customers to be satisfied.

Wise words MrC, if I’m honest with myself I can occasionally “get a blouse on” so maybe you’re right, perhaps I should just do it here.

It's a very good point. My second job involves a lot of contact with the public, but I don't have to deal with the nastiness - I just turn up and teach. It's my manager that is going spare dealing with nutters.

You will need to price for the hopefully small fraction of bad customers who it will easier just to refund, leaving you out of pocket otherwise. Don't argue, refund, walk away and block is the best way to deal with most bad customers.

Suppose might want to look at it this way re marketing v demand: Over 2,000 Retrobike users viewed the last thread and 3 more of us then went through with an actual refurb so far.

Probably closer to 9 over the past 2 years, but I get your point 😬🤣

Think I’m changing my vote now. Keep it as something you enjoy with out any extra admin or customer grief. Then u can be on holiday for as long as you like when desired.

I offered to repair the elderly neighbours singing blue tit garden ornament last night and immediately regretted it. Like when am I now going to get time to do that, why do I need more chores in my life ! Good karma I hope.

Ah yes, but some of us sent more than 1 saddle, so you’re in to double figures for saddles done. Speaking of which, want some more?…
It would be my pleasure 😁
