So after someone brought this up on another thread. Has anyone on here tried water in their magura's? Is it just an internet myth?

when i got my first set off hs33's back in 1995 ( i was 12 ) they was second hand.

i couldnt figure why they was shite to use. then when me and the old man took them apart somone had used sunflower oil for fluid.

this was changed and they work at treat, but i have heard about the water option before but i heard that water brakes down unlike oil?

I know water is no good for discs because of the heat build upbut that wouldnt effect rim brakes would it?

A rim has a much larger area to dissipate heat, so theoretically the rim will run cooler.
However the friction during braking still heats up the pads, and that still affects the fluid.

The main difference is that disc pads are much closer to the disc than rim brake pads are to the rim.
That gives the rim brakes more ability to let the fluid expand before you notice it dragging.

Only downside to using water is you'll have to bleed them regularly because of the 'O' in 'H2O' - the braking pressure causes it to seperate...

Ill make some money when hydrogen cars are all about what with having liquid hydrogen in my pipes

Think you right, :) but in all honesty, I've been looking into it tonight, and can't see any major issues, using water is common in the Trials world. But then if you feel better with proper Hyd Fluid then I'm guessing it's personal choice :) either way Mags are blooming good brakes and easier to service and run than people realise :) I know ive been running them a while now :) and I'm no expert in the field, nor profess to be one :)
