My team RTS rejig may result in me running a nice set of caramba sidewinder cranks with a 44t ring. Will this combo work with an m953 front mech that was designed with 46/48t rings in mind?

I think I've done this before without an issue, but a recent experience with using an SRAM xx front mech designed for 44t on a 38t ring has made me question my memories, as shifting up front was woeful until I replaced it with an SRAM gpx front mech and the difference was night Vs day.

Great news. I know I've done it before, but recent experiences had me doubting myself.

Just need to figure out what bb length is needed for the cranks now.....

Re:

I just put an XT triple crankset with 40,30,22 onto my Genesis tourer which came as standard with a 50,39,30 Tiagra set up.

All I did was drop the front mech to suit the 40t chainring, retune the front mech and it all worked first time.

I've only done 40 miles on it since, but there was a lot of chainring shifting as I was trying to provoke an issue, I failed.
