Rubbish brands that made a good bike?

I haven't got any examples myself, nor do I think a good brand gone bad counts either (Raleigh spring to mind in this category).

I guess that is where the subjectivity comes in to the equation, i consider them not a good brand in regards to consistently producing quality MTB's :)
 
Hercules. German brand with a long history. They basically made rubbish bikes only. The granny type. Iron horses made from german tank steel with sachs 3speed hubs, racks, fenders and all the reflectors. I always suspected them to use solid steel rods for tubing because they were that heavy.

Let's have a look at their catalogue from 88. This were the kind of bike you would associate with the brand:
(Notice the little toolcase hanging from the saddles - so typical! :LOL:)








And then this. Lite! Good geometry! And really cool loking - imho.
