Rondinella build what kit to use?

Retro Newbie
Hi - just starting a project on my trusty old Rondinella R074021 (1974)??

Getting a re spray at the moment and then I need to think about the kit to put back on it. I am keen to use it as opposed to have it on display. Keen to show it some respect with some decent components.

Any good recommendations for what to use? Probably going to stick with Shimano. But just wondering whether to put new kit on it or try and source old/ original. Would it be frowned upon to put new kit on such a bike or should I stick with vintage? I appreciate its personal choice but interested to know what the general vibe is.

I was going to put bar end shifters on. So am trying to source some down tube clamp on cable stops as it does not have the braze-ons on frame. any good recommendations for where to source some?

thanks

Pete

Nice :). Sort of my era, back then we used hand me down stuff, what we liked the look of, and generally what worked. I'd use 70-80's kit and not worry if anything matched as long as it looks good and does the job :)

First gen Dura Ace would be nice but the name of the frame is Italian :D

Its Vic Edwards built frame Shaun.... Specialised in TT frames in the 70/80's :)

Trying to think what Italian sounding name for clothes someone picked back then, Was it Canetti ?

Caratti? Phil Edwards company, sourced from companies he got to know when he rode professionally with Moser in Italy. He sadly died a little while ago, only in his 60's.

Canetti were tubulars? From Holdsworthy?

Re:

I had a Rondinella with nuovo record components, looked stunning.
I see no reason not to kit it out with modern components though if it makes it rideable for you and not just wall art.

Totally agree with the view that you should kit it out with whatever suits your needs for the bike. My two titanium frames from the late 1990's have new and new/old components, and both are a joy to ride. The problems with old bits is the wear and tear, the cost, and sourcing them. So you could use new bits now and look to collecting period correct over time for a later retro mod.

Thank you Old Ned, spot on. I was confusing my Holdsworth Bike Riders Aids with the clothing ads in The Comic :)
