Rocky Mountain Reloaded.....finished

Some how I've ended up with 4 projects on the go at the same time.....just don't ask!

I think it started when I realised I needed a clear out...see below

That led me to look and question everything in the shed.....did I use it, did it do what i wanted, did i like it, is it really what i need, can i still ride it without being crippled after 15 mins!

Sadly this led to me deciding to put up for sale my very much loved Marin Pine Mountain.....its just too small.

The replacement is a bike well known to many on here; really its nothing that special, but its come from another stork thanks @The History Man .

I was going to get it re powered, as its had a hard life and some damage, but could not decide which colour.....its a lovely purple, but it had lost quite a bit of it in places.....hard life.

So here it is on day one.....im sure many of you remember it. Although it had already lost its Ocky stickers.

So, what to do with it? Well, the paint wasn't good enough to keep, it looked like it had spent its life with a lock on the toptube rubbing around and been lent up against every lamp post from here to timbuktu!

Then, a pair of free wheels came up, which caught my eye......and that gave me an idea....

So im building the bike around the wheels.

First job was to deal with the damage, so all the bad paint got sanded out, filled on the top tube and primed up.

Then (as its powdercoat) I sanded out the skuffs, touched them up with enamel mixed to the required colour and sanded them back again. Lastly i abraded the entire frame so it would take a new finish.

Got an RM on the backburner myself, watching with interest.

Found another picture of the typical frame chips on the chain and seat stays.....been rubbed back to flatten them in the picture.

There's quite a lot when you start looking!

Wheels are stripped apart. Can't save the spokes.....can't even undo them!

So its choppy choppy time.....

Front hub toast.....rear, salvageable.

Today was about trying to get the wheels back into some kinda usable condition!

The rims are all cleaned up (jif and elbowgrease). The front hub ive treated myself to a new xt m730 36h from the lovely man at bicyclist.cc........cheers.

The rear I've rebuilt and with a good polish its come up very nicely imo.

Spokes I've got luckly......so tomorrow we build!

Oh.....as for the frame.....I've had a really stupid idea.....but its free stupid idea, as I've already got all the stuff left over from some old work projects......

If it goes wrong THM will invade my sleep and use his voodoo to kill me....so it better work!

Its a bit " Blue Peter", but hey
