Dirt Disciple
I’ve been massively into bikes for the last 25 years but only now starting to look back into older stuff.

Just picked up this Rocky Mountain Hammer this morning and would be keen to hear peoples thoughts on it as there’s not many posts about them.

I can’t find any others this colour online but doesn't look to be resprayed.

Need to do some learning on the forks as i’ve seen others similar with no top cap adjusters, I plan to rebuild them as they seem in reasonable shape.

It looks like the bars are titanium, maybe this is not that interesting 🤷‍♂️

Is profile a good brand? Profile hubs on bmx use to be the boys!

My plan will be to either restore to mtb or turn into some sort of mtb / gravel combo.

Does anyone know what other wheel size combos will fit on this frame & fork?

Please let me know anything interesting about these or show me your builds for inspiration.

Cheers

I love the paint, it must have been some kind of custom order, unusual for a Hammer. Rocky Mountain was a top brand, Hammer was near the bottom of their line, but they weren't building cheap bikes, even at entry level. It's still high quality, Ritchey Logic tubeset, but not welded in Canada. It will be a great ride, whatever you do with it. MTB/gravel combo is definitely in its range.

Unusual paint scheme for sure. A worthy project with that post, and drop some springs in to that fork.
Agreed - I've never seen a red and yellow hammer. Maybe they wanted something in team colours?

I have an early 90's metallic purple hammer that came equipped with full DX that I bought as a parts bike for a Ritchey build I was doing. rode nice. I've built it up retromod for my son.

I'd be interested in the serial number, the frame looks to be similar to a Hammer I had a few years back, gave it to a fried to build.
But the frame has an Equipe spec frame and not a Hammer spec.
Mine was all red though.

Scratch that, mine was a 1991, this is a 1992. But the Equipe thing stays as this isn't a 1992 Hammer, it higher in the range likely an Equipe (or some dodgy RM special ;-))
So yes serial number.

Wheels, unless you modify things then you're at 26" otherwise the brakes don't work.

I'm seeing 92 Hammer, but you have a much better eye than I do- I'm curious what you're seeing that make you think Equipe or Team Comp?

The seat tube,

If you can't see it.
both the end of the season made 91 frames painted up as 1992s (these have all the 91 features, noodles and headtube stops) and the proper 1992 frames all have a stepped reinforcement to the top of the seatube and an ovalised BB area.

This frame and Equipe level have 'bulge' style butting at both ends on the seatube.
