Rock Shox cut steerer tube

Hi all

I recently brought some rock shox Sids with a cut steerer tube but its to short are they interchangeable?? I know pace ones were are rockshox and if so!!! where can get one from??

depends on the year model, but usually now you'd have to buy a whole crown assembly with the steerer and upper legs, i have seen the old steerers pushed out of the crowns on some forks and new ones fitted but it's rare to find a company willing to do it or able to find a steerer to be fitted.

put up a picture of the fork and we can better advise.

I had the same problem, so got my dad to do a nice welding job and added a bit extra steerer tube. Works perfectly and alot cheaper than your other options.

But as long as youre willing to accept the possibility of the front end going off on its own then thats ok

Only if it's a poor weld, if you take a closer look at your bike frame you'll see there are quite a few welds on it.

true but the basic shape of the bike frame gives it its strength not just the 'welds'. some frames are interference fit, tubes simply pushed together. some are glued but a steerer tube has nothing to share a load with - not recommended in anyway.

But the steerer is run inside the head tube of the frame, surely the stressed points are at the top and bottom where the headset fit. Simply put the weld central to reduce any potential stress. The weld is no different to the ones on my Ritchey prestige frame.

I can't see an issue if done correctly ?

I presume most are picturing a simple butt weld, slightly askew with a big bird snot bead of weld around it
