Road tyres for ancient Lavadome

I’m fed up running big fat off-road tyres on the commute to work which is 100% tarmac, 12 miles round trip... Bike 1991 Kona Lavadome rims Mavic 221’s. Current tyres are 2.20 front / 1.95 rear – Anybody got any good tyre suggestions (need to be puncture resistant), no off road capability required as I am going to get a second set of wheels, I’m thinking of getting some 1.5 section Continental City Contact, good idea or not? Thanks

schwalbe city jet. a bugger to get on and off but excellent puncture resistance, which is what you want on a commuter

1 Conti Ultra Gatorskin if your rims are narrow enough (about the fastest tough tyre there is)

2 Schwalbe marathon in various flavours depending on how much broken glass you encounter.

3 I really like Hutchison Top slick - very fast and seems reasonably tough.

I picked some Mici's up cheap off fleabay :

They have zero tread, not even any small channels around the sides - yet to be ridden though so I cant comment on how they perform

I'm riding Panaracer Panasela's purchased from Dr S and a fine tyre they are too! 1.0 wide and runing them at 80 PSI, grippy in the wet/ice, very fast and fingers crossed no punctures to date. :)

I used Continental Cross Country tyres about 10 years ago so I guess they would suit your bike...if not your needs!

I'll second that. I've been running Paselas (26 x 1.25") for ten years, and they're my first choice for tough, all purpose road/touring/commuting tyres. Not as tough as some heavier tyres, or as quick as some lighter ones, but the best do-it-all compromise I've found.

There is only one MTB slick. The Spesh Fatboy. They're fast, they are 100psi slicks after all. They're tough, good puncture protection and you can run them down to the carcass. They're cheap. And they stick like sticky stuff to a blanket. Oh, and they've been around for years so they probably count as retro.

i think mine are kenda k west . certainly a kenda of some sort

about £10 a pair from rutland cycling on the bay

done nearly 1000 miles on them and have only just worn away the moulding rib from the center
