I would highly reccommend staying as far away as possible from Apex shifters at least in the range. talk about flimsy pos that if your lucky you might see flying off at an angle in the corner of your eye.
Iirc 105/ultegra kit is the minimum to go for if you want to see any level of quality.
Dura Ace being the dogs at what it's intended for.
Then again, I could be chattin ass juice as I don't ride road bikes for a long time now and my knowledge is that of non existent.
apart from running dura ace mixed with xtr on the merlin xlm mtb I had.
I would generally agree, except that the latest Tiagra is getting great reviews.
Veloce is about the same level as 105 in terms of quality of machining and finish.
Beware that Campag indexing is significantly more adjustable and capable above Athena.
105 is 11 speed now, I'd liken it to XT in mtb terms. Solid, reliable stuff, with most of the tech trickled down from Ultegra & Dura-Ace.
Personally, for Shimano , I'd give Claris a miss, Sora is decent but has/had those odd shifters with the thumb operated lever? That put me off. Tiagra is rather good though, not much in it really between that and 105, just the 11-speed that tipped it in favour of 105 for me.
