Ritchey Ultra

Someone will get a deal and turn it into a part strip, media blast, new paint and decal winter project.

Its pretty beat, and to make it worse it looks like no one attempted to clean it up at all. For the price its certainly better than a department store bike for an all-around rider though. Lots of mis-information in that auction too. Not a small frame, not an Onza stem (a ritchey with an onza sticker), not an 86 either. We will see just how "bad" it really is in a few days.

Yeah, I saw that bike and thought someone needs to save it and make it a rider..still some life left in her for sure! I had a timber comp previously and I have been having serious withdrawals after selling that last year. I like the way the old Ritcheys ride and a lot of the single track here in Missouri is well suited to rigid old-school mountain bikes. Brings back a lot of riding memories from the mid eighties for me.

I really like the way prestige steel frames feel too, thats a big draw for me and although the tig welded Ultra frames/forks are not nearly as cool as the filet brazed frames/forks the Ultra still has the right geometry and the tig welded frame should be slightly lighter as well.

I will post some shots once I get it cleaned up. Initially I am just going to dismantle and service it so it can be ridden this fall. After that I will have to decide if I am going to re-finish it over the winter. The black components are really rough too. Part of me wants to restore, the other part of me wants to leave it original and leave most of battle scars in place and just ride it.

Thanks for the comments guys..

Good buy I think.

I actually really like it all battered up...

At least the seller was honest - don't think I've ever seen so many photos for a bike sale!

Have to hope the chainstays aren't rusted through, but hopefully they won't be...

The seller The Pros Closet in Colorado did post a lot of pics on that auction thats for sure, and I agree with you the most concerning was the shot of the drive side chainstay rust. They definitely presented it without doing any clean-up either thats for sure. After I paid for the bike I called the seller to talk to them about their packing and shipping methods as I didn't want to take any chances of that pristine finish being compromised.

I will post some post clean-up shots after I get the bike.
