Riser bars on Retro ride

Hi guys , I just wondered if a set of risers on a 96 IBis Mojo would look wrong or is retrotically speaking just breaking the 'law' , I just fancy a bit more control over the more technical stuff and thought this may be the answer... anyone got risers (after having flats) on there retro rig?

I had risers on my RTS. They were period correct; well, just about (2000ish). But, this was when I used the RTS for faffing, bit of jumping, messing, and just popping to the shops.
But, when I got serious again, the flat bar came out and the riser went.
I dont like risers for 'proper' riding, but agree that they can provide a totally different feel, very BMX-like.
Are they right? I dont know, at the end of the day, its all personal choice.

My back thanks me every time I ride it. . .

They came out in c97 didn't they, so it's fairly period-correct on a 96 bike? I remember seeing a test of the 98 Muni Mula in MBUK and they said the only difference from 97 was fitting a riser bar and it totally changed the character of the bike from being a race bike into a hooligan bike.

I've never understood it myself - why do people find they give more control, is it the height or the width? Surely you can tune the height with the right frame, stem stackers and stem, and if it's the width, there's plenty of 60cm flat bars, or I think the Titec Flat Tracker is 64cm. So why riser bars?

BITD, I always thought it was just that people prefered the look of them.

Stick em on mate, if it means your gonna get more out of the bike I can't see a problem. I've got some lo-risers I'm thinking of putting on my Kona & to be honest I thinks it'll look ok.

Anyway you can always swap them back for that all important photo-shoot ;)

I'm in agreement with sunchaser, flats for a cool look and some photos, then risers for a proper thrashing. My Vit T has risers on it, albeit fairly low-rise ones.

I find being around 6' tall I can adjust my seat height but stem height looks daft using loads of spacers. Riser bars give me the extra height, width and they also usually have a nicer sweep than flat bars as well although I'm going to try a set of titec flat-trackers soon which have a similar sweep to risers.

Hey mate i`m gonna fit em on my american comp lite and that 89,just feel more in control and bikes are for riding not for looks--go on fit em

.. damn, this just reminded me I still have to send you the titec bar and CK  , spend some time in Spain and just got back from Londen to guide a schooltrip, suppose you still want ´m....
on topic now: I agree on the fact that if it suits you better ridin´risers just fit ´m. I used to ride riserbars bitd cause I did a lot of technical things and jumps.. nowadays a bit more scared and back to flatbars :D (... and yep they do look better I think ;) )

fit them if you want them. As for period correct, they were around before '97, but generally for downhill use. JMC used to ride them, so can't be all that bad ;)
