Hi ya folks, right i bought this ere Ringle Stem offa Hotgolf, Stem arrived very happy with it, carressed it lovingly for a while before realising i do not need it, and nothing to put it on, also bought it so i could say i owned one tell you the truth., i was poor as a boy you see

advertised it here for sale for what i paid for it £30, got no takers so put it on the flea bay again for £30, but with a £40 BIN price

Now i knew the stem was not a Zooka, and i have never tried to say it was

well anyway today i get a message

"Sorry to be the one with the bad news, but that isnt a ringle,
stem. Just a stem with some similarities stickered up to look like
a ringle.

Ringle zooka stems (the ones which look like this, feature a very
different design for the clamp to the fork steerer. Another little
giveaway is that the sticker on the face plate isnt applied
straight.

I am not planning on bidding, but only thought it fair to let you
know, to save you any trouble with disgruntled buyers.

Regards"

so i sent him one back saying no i didnt know, bought it here in good faith etc was he a member here and so on, that i knew it wasnt a zooka, but thought it was a later stem etc

so was just about to demand my money back from hotgolf ,when i thought it prudent to check the stem again, the Ringle is actually lazer etched into the aluminium, so its either not a fake or its a bloody good one,

so i need a Ringle expert to authenticate as i dont want to sell on a fake, nor do i want to have paid for one, or go accusing someone of seliing me a fake if its not, it was never claimed or thought to be a Zooka

cheers

Charlie

Don't think Ringle ever made a stem other than the Zooka, I stand to be corrected though.

Judging by the decals though, the letters are italics, ie slightly sloping. I only discovered recently myself, that when Sun took over Ringle, the logo's changed slightly. Genuine Ringle items have vertical lettering on the logos.

I don't know anything about the Sun range but guessing what you might have is a Sun-Ringle stem, they may have produced one like this using the Ringle name.

If this is the case, then you may have a Ringle stem, but a post Sun buyout stem which many people wouldn't consider to be genuine Ringle.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly to correct me.
:D

Ringlé only branding did appear on at least two other cheapo stems after the Zooka.

Not 100% about that one, but I'm erring towards kosher but a cheaper much later product.

Pre Sunn Ringle Zookas fastening to the fork steerer tube: on Zookas the bolts were in front of the tube, on yours they are behind. (That assumes you are sat on the bike looking forward). Does that make sense? There were a few minor variations on this but in effect they all sort of look like this on BikePro.com

There was a stem on Ebay recently. It was listed as Roox. It was clearly a cheapo no-name stem with a Roox sticker on it.

Back OT, looks like the lettering is printed on, not a decal, surely that make it genuine. I think Elite504 is your man for all things Ringle

the logo is etched in and what i would call lazer etched, not sure you can see them in the pictures but the logo is made up of vertical lines, so its not acid etched or engraved

I no not a lot about these at all but doesn't remind me of any ringle I knew.

It does remind me and the Alu finish hints at it, of being a mass produced cheap stem of the like of Club Roost (aka Kalloy) style stem in the clamp other OEM rabranding company. Think I've seen them from dodgy oversees imports looking similar. They would probably have access to laser etches no problem

like this Raleigh RSP apparently

I don't know if it is or isn't though.

but it does have whiffs of quality about, it is light weight and the front plate is solid and has been CNCed rather than cast,

also if there was one fake i would have expected shed loads of fakes coming in from the far east,

I don't necessarily doubt that it is Ringle (somehow, produced sometime post-Sun), but it certainly isn't from the OG era of the brand. Quality wise, the stem looks like the sort of thing that would be OEM branded parts.

Obviously not a Zooka.
