Reynolds 753R?

Hopefully!

Had some nice period Dura Ace hubs arrive, plus a full 600 Ultegra groupset, should be nice with new paint!

I'll start a thread in reader's rides once it's all on the go.

Make sure you do that!

One the things I was going to do was treat the inside of the 753r with this stuff perhaps a bit obsessive but will keep it minty fresh for many years

up until 1983, 753 was metric and took either 27mm pin for lighter gauge 801 tubing and a 26.8 pin for heavier gauge 803 tubes - 803 was used on larger 753 frames. I have a 1980 753 57cm frame and it uses the 801 tubing and takes a 27mm pin.

In 1983? 753 came in 2 flavours 753R and 753T (the T being slightly lighter) - this was imperial tubing and took either a 27.2 or 27.4 pin

I treated the inside of my 753 with this product - Boeshield T-9 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... _867wt_906

Re: Reynolds 753

The R=Road and T=Track Apparently the track version was much lighter.
I had a 753 frame once, it was very stiff for such a light frame.
Lots of savy frame builders never used 753 forkblade,s because they were not flexible enough to absorb poor road surfaces...

Stupid question: Is there any sort of weight limit? I'm a bit on the big side

Although it will be coming down, hopefully. But I'll never be a 9 stone racing snake

my bro had a 753R custom built that was 27.2mm seatpin.

some 753 frames esp the continental pave ones had 531C downtubes to increase strength (I'm told!)

they didnt use them because of the horrible pre bent rake

weird because 531 would have been weaker

eh? I thought 531C was much stronger. Weight for weight 753 is stronger, so if you were to thin out 531 to 753 thickness, then its weaker. Leave it beefier (and consequently heavier) and its stronger.

This is what I love about Retro/Vintage/Classic bikes, those little intricacies and differences between seemingly similar bikes.

I can't see people having this same conversations about about today's Alu & Carbon bikes 25 years down the line!
