retrobikes and wildlife

theres a road near where i live which i came down at 5 in the morning.bearing in mind this is in a built up area on a flippin dual carriage way.just standing there looking at me was a full grown deer.we both looked at each for a moment and then he walked over to the other side into a large bushy area and i never saw him again....very peaceful moment ..

ps what if chuck norris came back as a squirrel...... :p

I see loads of squirels at Kirroughtree

Yeah same here, and where I live too, they are everywhere.

Have never seen a badger in the wild, hopefully will at some point though.

@Perry.......'squirell bastard' :LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

I've just ridden the Clubman from the boat to my dad's, with a detour through Harpsden Woods and Balmore Park. Rode alongside a rabbit for about 20 yards, then he hopped off into the undergrowth. I could almost have touched him.
The mooring has wildlife in abundance, regularly see bats, kingfishers, owls and deer.

I inadvertently ran over a squirrel a few months back on my roadbike. It was lying in the road - I was just going round it when it jumped up and ran under my wheel. I guess it might already have been hit by something.

A couple of weeks ago I was on a nice decent on an evening ride and ran into a vixen with three fox cubs. Two of the cubs darted off to one side while the other one ran just in front of my front wheel for about 30 yards or so before working out that it'd be a good idea to veer off into the undergrowth.
There's loads of young rabbits running around too at the moment, especially during the early mornings. I've also seen plenty of foxes, badgers and deer.
And some doggers in the forest...

rode home yesterday..... and saw a cute little bunny on the side of the road, it ran off back into the hedge....

then when I got alongside ran out straight in front of me, Iwobbled about and didn't fall off and the farmer in the battered 90 coming towards me just laughed at me.....

it was vicious though... big sticky out teeth!!!

back in 93 cycling around Leith hill and a snake pop out went a few yards in front then did a left and gone.

Not really wildlife but I had an amusing encounter with some spring lambs a month or two back (not that sort). One of my regular routes takes me past a place called Chillington House a very large and posh (and ugly) manor house. There are generally lots of lambs in the fields as the farm supplies all the local shops. This happened a couple of times where there would be a 'gang' of lambs that seemed to be loitering (waiting?) at one end of the field. As I pass them they all take off not running away from me but parallel to me and the road.

I swear they were racing me. They kept sneaking looks at me and even tried to match my speed. They genuinely seemed to be having a laugh.

I could send you all to sleep with my wild animal stories as i live in the middle of nowhere!!

Oh! and i'm up at 4.45 every morning! At that time all the animals are up an' at 'em.

Al, ps just been round to see my new rescue cat. She is lovely!! :D
