Retrobike Trends for 2011

For me I think neo retro is going to be big in 2011. People in my age bracket who were in their teens in the 90's are now looking at their dream bikes from BITD and thinking I want the old skool look but with modern components that make the bike work better.

Anyone agree with me?

To a certain extent. I think it's a good way to go if you want to ride your bike on more than a towpath as opposed to polish and admire it. Also if you check out the spec of some bikes on Bikepedia there were some horrors back in the day so that rules out accurate restorations.

I think your guys are right withthe 1980's rigs. Lugs, crowned forks etc. Also seems to ne a lot of interest in 90's estay bikes as well.

But dare I say it i think mid/late 90's Dh bikes will also be collectable, pace, amp, giant etc. Not my bag but each to his own.

I look froward to what you guys put together over the next few months.

yeah, bikepedia shows some models, even what we now consider classics with some woeful kit attached. I'm guilty of now owning a garage queen but I think the trend towards usable retro bikes will catch on big time.

In already has in my household - I only have retro bikes and I ride daily, even if only often only to work (I should add that this is not some 'more retro than though' purity, more a terrified refusal to accept the inexorable march of progress or learn new maintenance skills. A wind up gramophone in an iPod world, if you like).

There may well be a trend for using newer components on older frames in 2011 but personally I can't see the point - if you want discs and longer forks, and nothing wrong with that at all, why not go with a modern frame designed for the purpose?

I catch your drift fella, why add long forks to a frame never designed for the bounce! What I want to do is re-live the feel of the frame but with slicker components that work better and even a little more hard wearing.

The game has moved on significantly since 1995! Mountain biking is very individual - i'm a 90's boy yet after picking up Dr S' RC100 last week I see he still has his first Cannondale MTB from the mid 80's

I started with a 20" wheel black/white fade mustang from a factory in Nottingham, one of thousands no doubt but it began a trend for me and stopped me becoming a road rider (thanks dad - he was/is on the money and even had his ear pierced like Matt or Luke Bros and had Grolsch bottle tops on his shoes!!!)

MTB is all things to all people. Neo retro is not everyones bag baby, but it makes me smile :D I could never afford XT BITD
