Retrobike Touring.

Re: Retro MTB Touring.

I'm jealous of you lot. I was planned on a tour in the Netherlands last week with my son. Then with 10 days to go he broke his arm.

Morning. Drizzling but less wind. The bike is fantastic even loaded. Gearing plenty for Cleeve hill etc when I nipped out last night for bread and milk (about8m) felt like a thoroughbred. Up to Tintern today

Looks like your really having a good time and the bike sounds real wicked too  but it's not doing me any good reading this as i'm now feeling rather jealous   ..

Re: Retro MTB Touring.

Ohh glad to find this topic! I built up a old Rossin Montare as a touring ATB/MTB/road bike and its been real nice!

ive went on a couple of overnight tours now and also used it as a daily commuter. at first with some old knobbly tires i found and nowadays with 2" schwalbe kojaks

Re: Retro MTB Touring.

It looks a bit heavy with all that gear on but classic looking none the less ..

Re:

Just got signal. Spent all day dreaming of a C90. More on return. Wales is lumpy.

Re:

Wow a C90 ! , now that's going back some and i can't remember tbh how long ago it is since i've actually seen one in the metal but i'd expect their's an owners club out there if you look for one and sorry but i can't iron those lumps out of wales as from what i'm lead to believe them there lumps are are hills   .

Glad to see the weather has been pretty decent for you and i'm looking forward to your next update and this is a little something for you to look at ;) ..

Re:

Three full days and a little pootle to find the Broom Wagon this morning. Home now. A great experience. I could write a full Edwardsesque account but the events are too many and too distant to recall and mention. Wrong turns, good turns, hills and vales, buns of steel and buns for breakfast. The coffee was good. Cake and pie local, fresh and in abundance. Not to mention steak and sausages.

Oh and the ride? Sublime. About a hundred miles covered and over four thousand feet climbed and descended. Slow rides and explorations. She picks up her skirts when required. 40mph fully loaded is enough.

Now I seek out lighter kit. A lot lighter.

Illustrations.

The first hour of the first day was the first hill.

Re:

What a great little write up. Backed up with some amazing pictures. Well done that man.

All you need to do now is repeat it on a Retrobike ;-P

Let me know if you need help lightening the load as I have already been through the process myself. I fit all of my kit in two Ortlieb panniers and a small cycling rucksack.

Keep it coming ladies and gentlemen.

This is THE summer post to keep in your favorites.

Re: Retro MTB Touring.

Yes i have got to admit the places that's been travelled to on your trusty steed have been glorious and i can only wonder if you could of managed 5 days and possibly a bit of the coast to coast route ;) ..

How sad! Hope he is doing better now..

Just out of curiosity: what was the approximate route of the tour you guys were planning to ride? I'd be interested to hear what non-Dutch biking enthousiasts think are interesting trails in the Netherlands :D .

If you're ever giving it another try in the future and you're in the Nijmegen area, feel free to stop by for a cup of tea ;).
