Apologies to op.
I'd bee keen to hear what you think too!I have already failed. I bought a bike yesterday. I still plan to clear out several bikes and parts. With GT changing ownership and the future unknown, I bought a modern Zaskar at half off. I don't think I have ever bought a new bike for myself before. It will be interesting to see the contrast between my 95 Zaskar LE and a new Zaskar.
That's a goal I almost reached. I sold 7 bikes and bought 3 I was searching for ages.Given most people's resolutions, this is not an invitation to more bike buying, but this past year I kept track of all my bike-related purchases and sales, and I for once reached my goal of making the hobby self-supported!!
I bought stuff for 1,810€ and sold 1,990€ worth of it. And that is including 4 more bikes in the shed and some upgrading of the existing ones (mostly through buying bikes for their parts and selling again with the downgraded bits), plus 5 orders to different online shops for spares. I bought 23 bikes and sold 19. Except for a small sized 26" to cover the 10 to 13 age to leave by the in-laws, I have all the bikes needed for my kids until adulthood (I really hope they prefer my steel classics to a boring Cube hardtail or I'm f*cked!)
I live in Germany in a relatively dense area so the local classifieds are a goldmine. I spend more time there than in any social media...
