RetroBike gone quiet..

I'm pretty sure I shall be here for a good while yet :) There's a lot to find out about, more bikes I want to build/rebuild/muck about with and ride, and lots of places I want to ride. I have two projects on the go at the moment and the only other pastime I have that's as cheap is model making. The projects have given me something useful to do, and I find myself volunteering more and more to fix mates' bikes ( something I didn't want to do in the past - ability I had but inclination was missing.) I like the atmos here and I like being able to be helpful on the odd occasion and how helpful everyone else is.
IN short, it's ace here.

Re:

Well I'm relatively new to the scene, but not the springiest of chickens either! :-D I've put 1 bike together and now started my second restoration which I am sort of sharing on here, but knowone seems too interested, maybe as its unknown and in its own right rare. Not bothered, I love this site, I love the people I have met and ridden with, and I am at this moment in time enjoying stripping the crap paint from some Mags I have just bought off here ready for paint! :-D
I'm enjoying myself and enjoying being on here. I feel that parts are maybe drying up, prices maybe rising due to demand and has maybe stalled everything. I have found Ebay to be getting expensive indeed and certain 'dealers' I have noticed are charging stupid money! I advertised some DX combo shifters on here with no interest a few times for a tenner posted. Sold them on Ebay for £11 plus £4 postage with 19 watchers? So the interest is still out there? :)

Re: RB gone quiet

Well the previous post was Saturday night and it's still on page one on Tuesday night so I think that decides it!

A shame, I really hope it picks up again.

Having said that I've not been on here much - until the last week or so for some reason.

having only in the last few days starting looking at sourcing some components, having had a hiatus with the completion of a special build, it's actually eerily quiet in the for sale section. I might be wrong, but it feels like the sellers whose business model was to buy cheap, and split for parts to sell at a profit, are now far fewer in number, and at the same time a lot of the retrobike regulars seem to be having clearouts, which feels a bit like panic selling to get some money back before the whole scene / market goes completely dead.

I'm now in two minds as to what to do - do I start hoarding parts I might need in future, just in case the market goes totally dead in the next few years? Or just stick with what I have and eventually go modern.

Re:

If it goes like the retro Tamiya R/C scene you will always be able to get the parts but you might have to wait longer due to less people being interested. The other option will be to pay a fortune for parts to those who have set up a business selling them. The Tamiya prices have held up it's just that you might find a few of a certain model come up each month where as at the height of interest there'd be a couple a day.

Stick with it, Retrobike is still the place to be in the world of mountain biking. Some of us have scratched our itch, but there will always be others just discovering the magic who are prepared to raise the bar one notch higher.

+1

..add to that statement that I continually realise new Itches to Scratch..

Re:

For me the price of the quality gear went so high, stopped looking for it!

Time too.. My last 2 projects have never left the house! If I'm going out for a proper ride I'd rather be comfortable and safe! Proper brakes suspension that works and tyres that get you round in 1 piece.

I still love the retro stuff but maybe it as peaked already and now sitting stagnant!?

I'm prepared to raise that bar to eleven, which is one louder than ten... ;)
