Don't you just set them up with the right straddle length so they "appear" horizontal when the pads hit the rim?

It's ages since I set-up wide profile cantis, low profile ones are dead easy, you go with a vertical position.

With wide profile it doesn't really matter according to the calc, as long as there's sufficient yoke height.
It works out roughly as horizontal when in contact with the rim.

Low-powered water pistols are allowed, but you have to pass police & doctor checks and agree to weekly cavity searches.

Will have to be a bolt action rifle I'm afraid. But we had this one figured out a long time ago.

I don’t trust myself with semi auto pistols. They are always hot when loaded with the safety off. They are the most popular by far. I’m in the vast minority that prefers single action revolvers, cowboy style. Yes they are slow, but cheap. People think they are bad because of the lack of a safety. My brand has a bar in front of the round that moves once its double cocked so it’s safer than an auto with the safety off. Use what you are comfortable with. My question is do you prefer to be shot with a semi auto pistol or a single action pistol? I’m sure the big bad critters don’t have an opinion. I only carry when spending the night alone in le bush. A kinife would probably be good to have on routine rides in le bush. Thee weeks ago three of us saw a mountain lion. Everyone said, I’m not riding anymore without a knife. Rules, #1, never point the pistol at anyone unless you want to destroy them, rule # 2 never put your finger on the trigger unless you want to destroy what your pointing at, #3, all guns are always loaded, regardless of what you think or been told.

Riding the Touro tomorrow, so not much time for frannying around with the frameset this weekend.
Sourced an excellent condition Tange French headset for peanuts, so back to the original plan of combining the JIS Tange crown with the French parts.
Ironically, it turned out to be easier than sourcing a humble alloy washer that's 4mm thick and 24mm ID. Tried searching for washers, tubing, flat stock - it's unbelievable that in 2022 you can't just order stuff like that to your doorstep. Only found stainless steel washers and a couple washers + postage worked out more expensive than the French headset The 1" EC30 headset will just have to wait for another frame.

Tried installing the headset into the frame... Bottom cup went in until there was about 3mm left, then it required a lot of persuasion to push all the way in. Didn't expect Franny's holes to be so tight after all these years. Top cap went in until there was about 3-4mm left, then refused to go in at all.
I did check that a JIS cup comes in too loose, so it's definitely 30.2.
That's when I've realised that it could be the headtube has not been reamed deep enough if it was made for a different cup.
Knocked the headset out, ordered a cheapo adjustable reamer to clean up the tube and re-install the cups.

After that I only had time to fill Franny's cavities with gooey stuff and leave her to dry.

@Guinessisgoodforyou is using some other online translate - only a few occasions does it seem to trip up.

Good written French is a nightmare to begin with, and then add forum speak with a fairly technical subject matter about old knackered bikes it's bound to push the AI limits of super computers.

I was right about head tube reaming. Took me a while, but I got to the point where I could fit the headset after frannying about with an adjustable reamer.

Cheapo Chinese taps turned out to be quite good quality. Nds threads renewed without issues; DS threads were a bit chewed up and I couldn't get the tap started without the fear of cross-threading for a while. Then came up with an idea to stick the tap's handle through the shell, center it on the nds side, and then it caught the threads almost instantly.

Bottom bracket threads chased, ds edge faced and neco cartridge installed.
I took the opportunity to drill a couple drain holes in the bottom bracket shell just like I did with Bojack, so if any water comes in through the seat tube, it should drain out instead of rolling about the frame.

Facing the French shell required a wee set of 35x1 adapters to center the facing cutter.
Since I don't have a metal lathe, but I had some African Blackwood kicking about (wood known to be able to hold threads!) I just turned & tapped a couple guides for the facing tool instead of the BSA ones that the tool originally came with.
Did the same for the headtube - turned a couple adapters to use the same facing cutter on it, but French head tube turned out to be almost perfect anyway.
