Retro-modern fusion gravel build madness. The new Superb!

Why would it snap? I thought steel bends long before it snaps? Should take several in-out cycles for it to work harden?
Hopefully will be sharing the details of the new frameset in the next few days.

No idea what hit it. Some idiot, most likely.

Anyway - no progress on Frannie so far apart from sourcing the brakes and getting the front wheel close to finalised.
Dunno ...just a bad day....another one...after the one before that I guess 😆 I presume it's a forged crown? Anyway enough of fork...so you say frames bent too then ? 🤨 Did the peloton get mowed down by a stampede or something?

You sure know how to pick 'em, either nothing fits or its bent. What's next? Why not buy a puzzle of tubes that's been cut up with an anglegrinder?

Did you manage to find / solve the crucial headset problem?

Looking forward to seeing this bike and the ride report.

solve the crucial headset problem?
Yes and no.

I've got a Tange headset in the post arriving with the weans' frame, so Frannie will have a headset one way or another.

The M25 nut that I've ordered turned out to be a dud. The inside diameter between the threads measures 22.9mm - to my best knowledge, this is smaller than minimum M25x1 specs.
A memory of my pal came to my mind - "Make your own damn bolts!". Well, nuts in this case.

An M25x1 tap has set me back £14 posted, so I'll wait for it to arrive. I can either try to take some 4-5mm alloy flat stock (or maybe brass if I'm feeling posh on the day), drill it and tap it, or I can try and find somebody willing with a lathe (@Mickeyspinn?) to turn the correct inside diameter.

This is, obviously, now a matter of principle to try out the treadless hack. If it works, it will liberate all those old French frames from the requirement of having to source a French headset.

Frannie is currently hanging out with a Holdsworth and a Kona at the painters. Will be at least a week or two before I get the frameset back.

🤔

The off-the-shelf 1" standard low-stack threadless headset plus the addition of two M25x1 nuts to make a snug modern threaded headset very promising. A bit like those French BB conversion cups, if a French conversion headset kit was made it would be perfect.

Perhaps this is something for @Mickeyspinn to think about. Get the blue prints and spec. and do some prototypes?

Thank you.

Do you reckon I'll be able to tap a 4mm stainless steel washer by hand? Or is that a recipe for a broken tap?
Errrrr refresh my head....this nut is to be a way of preloading the headset?
Stainless ...meh.. horrible for hand tapping,a washer won't give you much to get hold of when tapping! I'd go aluminium from plate then just take a bit of time hand cutting nut flats on it.
