I have been a member for about 1 1/2 years. I have followed different retro build threads and have observed two different schools of thought. Those who bling their bikes with after market parts and those who adhere to the original build spec from the manufacturer. There are combinations of of the two and as long as they stick to a certain period in history, they are accepted.
For me, whenever I bought a bike, I usually replaced the brakes, seat post, cranks, stems, etc.. I always viewed the stock Shimano parts as a little "boring." I mean, how can you compare a Cook Bros crank to a XT crank? No comparison in my opinion.
That being said, I also love to see a totally period correct 1990s Klein, Yeti, Merlin, etc.
So which do you prefer?
