Retro Black Wall (Shock, Horror ... lol) Tyres ?

Hi,

What retro black wall tyres were there ?

I had Smoke Lite's in black wall around 92 or 93 (I think) but what else was out there ?

Repops are cool by me - what are the porcs like ? Not seen any for a while ... ?

I bought a pair of repro Porcs the other week off of eBay. Not mounted them to anything yet but I was running original tan wall ones on one of my bikes and found them excellent in crappy mud. Hoping the black walls will work well on my GT STS.

I swapped out the Charge Splashbacks I had on my GT for the Porcs today and took it out for a blast. What a difference it's made to the way it rides! No more squirminess in the corners. Plus I think it now looks badass!!!!!

It's actually getting quite tricky to find good 26 tyres that aren't balloons in a skinny frame.

Plenty of zmax around though.

I just bought a Maxxis high roller 1.9 for the kili rear and that keeps a nice skinny size.

Retro, I used to love WTB velociraptors blackwall not sure if they did reissues or not.

Porcs are overrated in my opinion, sorry to say.

Pretty much all tyres came on black wall, so just pick your tyre from that year and look for it.
Onza, panaracer, Tioga, Spesh, Ritchey, Irc or your favourite CST/Cheng sheng tyre before they used the maxxis branding.

That's the main British market ones from memory.
