Restoring A Polished Frame, What To Use?

If you do need to use wet and dry make sure you finish with a fine grade such as p2400 or p3600, Start with p1500 to get the worst of the scratches. Then use a course compound such as Farecla G3 or 3M Finese it.

Cheers for the info, i'll see how i get on with the autosol then maybe look at wet and dry if things need stepping up.

Many moons ago I used up lots of spare time polishing motorbike parts to a chrome like finish....the BEST Aluminium polish I ever came across is a product called BELGOM ALU....it is readily available on the net/Bay of Evil.....don't be put off by the price 'cause it is THE business - not only does it shine up like nothing else it ALSO leaves a protective slightly waxy finish that is invisible to the eye but gives a bit of protection.......Bare Alu needs protecting as much as possible....try it - you'll not only like it - you'll never want to use anything ese

Oh dear  my opinion reads like a commercial

I've had a lot of success with believe it or not a Brillo soap pad, honestly works superb, one of these is probably similar to using 1500 - 2000 grit wet and dry, easier to use as it gets into the corners and nooks better and the soap in the pad cleans and polishes the frame at the same time, finished it off with Autosol but could'nt see it any better TBH.

One big thing though, if you do polish the frame be prepared to keep going over it as even taking it out in the rain, when it dries it will be stained, though a coat of good car wax helps a bit, also if re doing it watch the stickers as i've ruined them with polish.

Also had to stop commuting on my polished Orange last winter as the salt on the roads was eating into the bare alloy :(

My experiances and examples of polishing ally are in my build threads - everyone seems to have their own method that works for them, find something that works for you and stick with it :)
