Restoration Techniques / Tips?

What degreasers do people recommend avoiding for ultrasonic baths? I have one at work and turned a set of V-brakes white (no loss there at least!) with IPA...!

Really suprised at that, used baths with IPA and Trichloroethane on alloy parts without any trouble. The Trich' might prove quite tricky to get hold of though and is pretty nasty stuff to have laying around the house. You should be able to use your normal degreaser or just plain de-ionised water as the ultasonics do most of the hard work for you.

What do you use on polished aluminum? Just something to spiff it up? There has to be some sort of polish out there.

depends on how bad its tarnished. autoglym if it just needs a shine & a polishing wheel. if its real rough then P1200 emery clothe, P900, polishing compound, 3M scotchbrite, autoglym & polishing wheel in that order. that'll get a mirror finish :D
