BH Airlite Hubs / Dunlop Special Lightweight Stainless Rims / Panaracer 27 x 1" Tyres / Gripfast Wingnuts / TDC Cog / Steel Valve Caps / Phil Wood Lockring
Creating separate post for these to be able to supply more detailed photos and getting a bit lost on other thread for parts.
These have seen max of around 150 dry miles since built. Built with either new, NOS or excellent used parts.
The Airlite Hubs are in stunning condition. Front was purchased NOS and in original Airlite box and is superb. Rear is used but excellent, chrome on barrel excellent, just a bit of wear where chrome meets flanges. I also re-built rear with correct, perfect condition cones supplied by Abel Baker cycles and new bearings. Rear hub barrel may have been re-chromed as BH engraving is hard to see, although stamping can often be faint on these. Alloy flanges are lovely and bright.
Dunlop Rims are hard to find Stainless version. The Dunlop engraving good and strong. These rims are pretty old, so have the odd mark, scratch and slight ding, but run well and true and are in good overall condition... these always clean up and are very shiny!
Spokes were bought new. Supplied by Mick at Madgetts Cycles, brilliantly helpful shop. Had a few questions about the spokes... I was sold these as proper 15/17 gauge spokes as Mick had sets made up for his own restorations and I believe built these for me using the same. I am not 100% certain this is the case though and do not know how to check for sure. My digital callipers are a bit screwed so can only be very approximate, but they look to measure closer to 1.8mm/1.6mm. So maybe closer to 15/16 gauge. I'll try to buy some replacement callipers and measure accurately.
Cog is a Villiers, marked "Villiers Made In England". It is 17t, perfect, also bought NOS from Madgetts. Currently there's a Phil Wood lockring on there, anachronistic, but solid. Airlite hubs use a pretty standard threading so easily swapped once something period is found.
Gripfast wingnuts perfect, again bought NOS.
Tyres bought new and stored a few years. Have been used but you would be hard pushed to tell, tread looks as new, gumwalls nice and clean.
Valve caps are a nice little added extra. Steel and knurled, and once again, bought NOS.
