It grieves me to say I have to sell this lovely old bike. It has proved to be too big for me sadly. I only bought it earlier this year from a forum member, at a very reasonable price - it was to be my dream bike. I've made a few changes to it since becoming the owner, but any number of upgrades won't make me any taller! I must say there's no profit element in my price - it simply reflects the original purchase price plus the cost of the changes I have made. There is a small ding on the top tube but it's hardly noticeable. Picture 2 below.
I'd like £225 for it. And it's collect only - from Norfolk UK. Here's the spec:
1976 Sid Mottram road bike, number 21976, frame builder number 6 (George Bryan at Mercian). Size 57cm. This is the usual super quality frame that we've come to expect from the builder. It features really well defined lugwork expertly lined in white, and has the original metal headbadge. I have renewed one or two stickers that had suffered wear or damage - those world champ bands on the seat tube in particular. There are the usual marks about the frame as you'd expect on something approaching 50 years old. I've touched up several in a slightly different blue so they can be found if more restoration is considered likely - from 3 feet they're un-noticeaqble.
Headset - uhnknown
Stem - GB 120mm
Bars - 3ttt "Grand Prix" with Sid Mottram badge end caps.
Brakes - Mafac "Racer" centre pulls with Mafac half hood levers (no hoods, but they're still available)
Gears - Shimano 600 "Arabesque" front and rear derailleurs, and levers
Cassette - 5 speed 14t - 28t
Crankset - SR "Apex" 170mm, 49t + 28t
Pedals and toe-clips: Shimano 600 EX
Wheels - Maillard Atom SF QR hubs, Maillard skewers, rims Mavic MA40 anodised grey, spokes DT s/s butted Swiss and tyres are Schwalbe Delta Cruiser 700 x 28c with little wear
Seatpost - Shimano 600
Saddle - Brooks B17 Champion Narrow
Ding: at the left side of the "S" - see second image
