Record Pista on Road

Devout Dirtbag
Hi all,
Just wondering,
What are the drawbacks of using Record Pista hubs on the road? I'm talking pre C-Record, so 1970-1983ish.
Are they missing dirt seals compared to the Strada versions?
Can you fit Strada dust seals onto Pista hubs to enable you to use them reliably on the street?
Or would all you need to do is cover the hole on the side cap so no dirt can enter?

Also, what's your thoughts on radial lacing the front wheel with these high flange Pista hubs? Silly? Just asking for a flange failure? What do people recommend for the 28H version using DT Comp spokes? 2X front and back, 3X front and back? Radial front?

Apart from looks, no speed advantage of radial lacing the front? The cons outweigh the pros?
I know a lot of wheel builders refuse to radial lace the old Pista hubs.
Thanks

Don't remember any specific seals on Nuovo Record Strada or Pista. Radial spokes are for show... BITD we used radial on the front and non drive side on the rear. Don't recall my TT times coming down though :)

Never saw any ol seals in campagnolo hubs in 50/60s. The very first road pedals had a plastic disc oil seal in a groove.

I proved in the 50s that radial spoking needed more tension to be as strong as tangent spoking.
If you radial spoke the non gear side you will have more tension on the radial spokes than if yoyu use tangent spoking.

Re:

I think the bearing covers are the same on the road and track hubs. What you lose on the track hubs is the grease injection hole. This is very useful for forcing grease out through the gap between the cover and the cone, creating a seal.

On the road hubs you can fit the later covers with the rubber seal from 8 speed era hubs. I would be surprised if they didn't fit the track hubs.
