The difference between powder-coating and what a good enamellers like http://www.bobjacksoncycles.co.uk/frame-resprays/ is;

Been trying to contact this guy in regard to a couple of frames. I'm not a facebook user, so I'm not having a lot of joy.
Anyone else had experience of this company or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks for the reply. It's Retro Coatings I was trying to get hold of.... as you say, perhaps the old fashioned way and send my pics 2nd Class!!

Bob Jacksons looks like the complete service but it's complete overkill for what I'm after really.
I could get my frames redone by hand stripping and painting myself, but I've got 3 to do and it's a real PITA ..... especially when you've got young children and little spare time. Perhaps it's a bit of impatience too. Was hoping that someone like Retro coatings would offer the complete service at a reasonable price.
Oh well. Crack on with one I suppose.... but which one. That is the question?

What are you getting done? - The pics on the linky show motorcycle stuff etc... is there any pics of bicycle related stuff?
I take it you got hold of them on the good 'ol phone then? - I was trying to email them with pictures to better explain what i was after. Might just send the one frame and see how it pans out rather than taking the leap with all 3 now. :?
Any more out there that have used this company?

Looking for my RC200 that's being rebuilt.
if you go to the retro coatings website there's a menu at the top to colours, in there there's normal, non-normal and at the bottom 'special', with a link to their US supplier with loads of examples. It's worth a rummage through there.
ballpark figures for a frame were £50—60 for normal colours and more like £100 for a special, which seems about the going rate really unless you can get mates rates somewhere.
Also talked to the Rourke guys in Stoke, go by the name blue whippet, about a shiny flamboyant wet paint finish which was more expensive, probably less durable but might be a nicer, higher quality finish.

I just got a steel road frame back from him and I'm very happy, especially at the price. I'll try to take some photos over the weekend.
He prefers to stick with RAL colours so that reduces the initial options a little bit, but he'll also mix colours/shades to get a slight variation.
He'll blast the frame first before coating and then apply either a plain or metallic lacquer on top. He's happy to apply decals on top of the lacquer for you, but won't put them under the lacquer in case they get damaged in the oven.
The coating I got looks very good and also looks as though it will last very well. He showed me a few mtb frames of his own while I was there and they looked great!
