I found out There aren't many places around who will service or repair tape decks ... assuming the parts are even available. I think it was worth the 70 mile round journey for me. Apprantly, you can send your broken gear by post ... the shop itself is a gold mine for any classic Hifi head.
It's the first time I've used wilkinsons but would hesitate to use them again. Not exactly swift but I was in no rush ... a few weeks extra to the 25 years ... meh ... I was happy to wait

Probably about a third of what it would cost down south...and that's if you can find anyone half decent.
