I'm liking that Viscount :)

Me too! :D

Thanks.

Master frame builder Barry Chick did me a favour he cut and faced the fork crown for me so I could fit the Dura-Ace headset. Barry told me he built the Viscount team frames back in the day, so kind of nice he did a bit on this one too.

proper job! :D

yes indeed - I am a child of 60s - so I have no idea about bikes from 70s or older - I know Anquetil and Eddy Merckx but I never seen them only on pics - my heros starting with the Belgian climber Luien van Impe, Hinault his great Dutch rival Zootemelk and the Kangoroos Phil Anderson .... and..and..
so my personal Retros are from the 80s ans 90s, when road racing coverage has started on TV.

Greg Lemond bring me to road cycling when I was able to buy myself the first road bike ... and he rode from 80s to 90s, but that's my philosphy

But I think we have within this forum a catagory up to 1998 and a further catagory 1998 -> ...

Re:

I'm all for somebody's long cherished and ridden machine and I also like the idea that entries are the culmination of a project, be it a light restoration or a more complete rebuild. I am also happy to extend my view of what is retro to plastic bikes, but with traditional shape and form, say a C40, but I can't imagine I'd feel the same about fat aluminium tubes or a Trek Madone for some reason! In my view buying a complete bike and entering it as is isn't really within the spirit of rBoTM but that's just me. I imagine people vote with their own priorities in mind anyway...

It was way out of my price range then; much like the current Dogma F8 is now ... but I can afford the 80s Pinarello now that I couldn't back then :D

One of the few benefits of getting older - great!

I think it is all about wanting what our heros had when we were young.

When I was watching the Tours in the mid 80s when I first started to follow cycling I lusted after the Pinarello.

It was way out of my price range then; much like the current Dogma F8 is now ... but I can afford the 80s Pinarello now that I couldn't back then :D

Here is a price list from 1985 ... 2 million lira (or £837) way more than I could find in 1985 ...

Of interest is according to online RPI data, today's equivalent price for the Montello would be just over £2k, whereas and hand made Italian frame with a Record groups would be at least double that!
