Re:

Retro is in the eye of the beholder I think.

On the muddy side of this site, retro is pre '97 .

If 'retro-enough' in the road section would mean 'up to '89 with family history/hand-me-downs', then surely that would exclude everyone since '89 who has built up a bike from parts? If that were the case, only older people on here could enter bikes, so to speak!
Or am I missing something?

eh? :)

Are you talking about the Wilier? It originally had a Veloce group, but I thought it deserved better, so built it with period correct record, could have been ordered with either from new I imagine...
Is there a 'retro BOTM minimum age' guideline? puzzled, Warks :)

Re:

I was talking about the general conversation that started about just how retro bikes need to be to be entered for this competition. Not referring to anyone's bike in particular.
Some will think 8-speed Ergo/Sti is retro, others will think aero levers are, and yet more will think if it doesn't have brake cables coming out of the top of the levers, it just isn't old enough for them.
We all have our opinions based on our own personal 'golden era' of cycling.
So I think we should just enjoy looking at other people's bikes, without this question of ' is it retro enough?' , and simply cast our vote according to our tastes.
Not wishing to offend anyone, just giving my opinion
Simple as that.

I'm not sure why certain poster's have picked up on this retro issue, I for one do not like the term - never have - doesn't mean I don't like RetroBike.
Opinions are fine, but I believe opinions need to be informed, Spokesmann and myself merely agreed on certain points about how bikes should be displayed, I perhaps muddied the water by adding my thoughts about the misused retro term - it does not alter the fact that bikes of any decade, whether 50s, 60s, 70's or 80's, are not retro bikes.
Anyway that's all from me on this subject, lest someone throws a tantrum.

TBH , I'm not really bothered either, merely fascinated as to peoples opinions. But according to that, anything pre '50s is, ahem, retro in your eyes? I think we've had this conversation before as to what should be elligible. Probably have it next month too

Bothered, I didn't think you would be (the rolling eyes says much about your attitude): got your opinions and you keep them: fascinated as to other people's opinions - not.

You are clearly not interested in other peoples - opinions - or the wider subject. And I did not mention pre 50s bicycles.

popcorn time?

I have seen all sorts entered on RBOTM , all lovely stuff, cotter pins and sprouting cables kinda epitomise the 'retro' tag i guess, but love my 80s and 90s Italian stuff with alarming paint graphics, well that's just my personal mojo :)
