For Sale Rare Raleigh Racing Bike SBDU Vintage 1970s, 54cm, red, very good condition

Desto

Retro Newbie
Beautiful vintage Raleigh racing bike. Originally built around 1976 and refurbished around early/mid 90s. The serial number is SB962, which means it was one of the first 1000 built by Raleigh's SBDU department, the custom workshop at Raleigh that built all the professional team and custom frames - making this an early example of a highly desirable frame.

Seeing as Raleigh SBDU frames are being sold at around £700 - £1000 on ebay, I'm selling this complete bike for £1000. It is in very good condition with a mixture of quality Campagnolo and Shimano, including many original components kept in excellent working order. Comfortable steel frame, 8 speed (16 gears) for road/endurance riding and/or general commuting.

Top tube (c-c) measures 54cm and the seat tube (bb-c) is 54cm, so I’d say this would suit a rider around 5'4'' – 5'7'' (162.5cm –170cm).

All components are listed below and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

531 Reynolds steel
Campagnolo brakes with Campagnolo Athena levers
Campagnolo Chorus front derailleur
Campagnolo Mirage rear derailleur
Shimano Dura-Ace cranks
52 tooth Dura-Ace big ring
New 36 tooth chain ring
New 11-28 cassette
Campagnolo head stem
Cinelli handlebars
Original seat post and saddle (Selle Italia Turbo)
Mavic Open Pro rims laced to Campagnolo hubs
Mavic Open Pro wheels
Continental GatorSkins
Campagnolo water bottle holder

Collection in person is preferred, but can arrange a courier if buyer covers it. Could also drop the bike off if located near North London.

Nice looking machine, looks like it had some frame mods when it was painted..down tube lever bosses, extra bottle cage mount, pump pip and drilled for recessed allen fitting brakes..GLWS 👍

Pity it didn't get finished with typical 70s block Raleigh SBDU transfers. These look more modern .... Raleigh USA, Special Products?

That's always going to eliminate any discerning collector

I know what you mean...you do look at it and think that's a shame...but it's at a better price this time and it's a 1977 bicycle so not really early but early enough for some?

I just want vintage components on my vintage bikes. There was nothing wrong with Campy N. Record derailleurs or brake levers. Or top tube brake cable clubs, or etc, Etc.

I guess a lot of people want the frame and the components to be original and of that time period?

Looking at prices though the asking price is reasonable considering it's got components? A few weeks back there was a smaller framed sbdu on eBay built circa 1983 and was painted in some form of blue with surface rust here and there. I think they were either asking £265 or received an offer quite near? It sold quite quickly.
