Rare Prototype Zaskar .. yawn.. yer mate.

So how can you tell a stripped & polished Zaskar from a stripped & polished Zaskar LE ?
Why is it called a Zaskar & not Zanskar ?

Before about 1998, there are NO DIFFERENCES for Zaskar frames - 'LE' badges represented equipment spec. Later models just confuse me.

On this clip, Hans Rey talks about a Zaskar prototype.

From the clip, according to Hans, only one prototype survived and it belongs to a collector in Switzerland.

I'd be inclined to believe him.

But I believe he maybe refering to the first editions 1990 manufacture not like the ebayer?

Do you concur?

Cheers for the reply legrandefromage, I always believed, from what I'd been told, that the frame geometry was different on the LE, the difference being that the Zaskar geometry was just ordinary whereas the LE was team geometry.
Also, from what I heard, that the Le was internally butted & the Zaskar wasn't but by comparison the frames seem to weigh the same.

I'd say so.

Over the 90's, something must have prompted GT to move the gusseting from the top tube to the down tube.

At this point, I don't have any view on the sellers honesty. It would be good to get to the bottom of this. Time will tell.

The 1997 Zaskar LE came with an integrated seat clamp, the Zaskar didnt.

There were tubing butting differences between the Zaskar and the LE as soon as 1995. Visual differences in seat clamp, integrated seat tube and dropouts started in 97 as mentioned earlier.

I don't know If I'd believe that video, after all he starts off by saying with a big shit-eatin grin that he's down i the deep dark mountains in Switzerland... While Hans was an important figure with GT he was not constantly at the factory and wouldn't really have any knowledge on how many prototype frames were ever made in the first place. As fast as things moved around the production floor he'd have needed to be there 100% of the time to know that.

Did manana ever come? And if so, what's the scoop?

'cos we went from hand-waving dismissal of all the sceptics by the seller, to yanking the auction, and what appears to be a big rubbery one - so, um, where's all this talk of rare prototype, now?
