Do I understand that you are angry on the seller because our customs charged dutys and VAT?

that's how it sounds to me as well. strange. it's a well known fact that you'll have to pay custom duties on overseas shipping but what does that have to do with the seller and the shipping costs? and why do you want to leave him negative feedback for something he is absolutely not responsible and does not have any influence on?

I agree that import and VAT duties are annoying and seemingly randomly assigned.

However, this is not the responsibility of the seller. if you are bidding on something in the US you take the risk of that import duty. If the seller was responsible they would never send stuff out of the country would they...

Being new to the whole thing of buying parts from overseas i didnt know about the customs charges, when i buy something i always email the seller asking for a price to ship it to UK,there has been no mention of the extra customs charges so now ive ended up paying £30/40 more for an item,ok some people will say that its my own fault for buying from abroad but its just annoyed me,it seems that airing my opinions has upset a few people on here, this wasnt my intention.

Back Luck :( i'm saving all my purchases for when my mate goes to tampa in april, she is gonna bring it all back for me as i'll get it sent to her cousins house and she can put it in her suitcase. I thought ebay were planning to remove the negative feedback sellers could give to purchasers (or was I just dreaming?!?)

My tuppence...I sell all over the world on a regular basis, approx 50-60 parcels a week and I don't take responsibility for Customs/Import Duty....IMHO it's up to individuals to expect to take a hit.

Some weird countries like Norway are VERY fussy, as are Israel and they WILL open stuff and check values against my invoices. In these cases I will contact the buyer before shipping and make them aware of this and its often rectified by me PDF'ing the invoice and emailing it so it's not inside the package when C&E open it for inspection....I'm also happy to write things down or mark as gift.

When i'm buying I always expect to take a hit every time.....8 times out of 10 this doesn't happen thankfully :)

Well now that im aware of this i wont be leaving negative feedback for the sellers, just wish i knew these things in hindsight,i do now so ill just grin and bare it and beware there may be customs charges in future.

Ill leave now, tail between legs

andy

agreed it's a nasty surprise on your first overseas purchase.

I think most of us are now so use to the potential at being stung on foreign imports we factor it in to the price we are prepared to pay for an item..

you have learned the hard way  , like we all did :(

While we're on the subject of 'hidden charges'.........take care buying from German eBay....most do NOT take PayPal and then you're down to Bank Transfer.....which most UK banks (mine included   ) will charge you £21 to do for you

I do buy lots of stuff from Germany but take that extra 20 shekels into account.....(normally I take the hit cos I want the stuff bad ;) )

my bank fortunately only charges £7 for a direct european transfer (natwest - there is another way ;) ).
