Rang my LBS today

lol, he probably wasn't but regardless he probably still knew more than me, my point is I was just surprised I had to explain what they was

Re:

They're still quite strong in the bmx and trials world from what I've seen. I guess your lbs does get much of that.

Not sure Quinns who it was been around for years and they sell and service all sorts of bikes, to put it in comparison i was at Formby Cycles yesterday and asked the same question he knew right off, and went rummaging around the store and online to see when they next had stock in but i don't get down that way to often. Wont put me off going to them for anything in the future its just one them things and in fairness after looking at the Clarkes compatibles don't think i would have got them for less. Under £8 per for front and back

Hydro rim brakes are quite a rarity, who's popularity peaked in a minor way in the late 80s. If I rang my otherwise excellent LBS and they didn't know much/anything about them then I don't think I'd hold that against them.

I find all this "I know something my bike shop/garage/other specialist doesn't" type chat rather puerile. It's simply not possible to know everything about everything. I could understand it if you drew a blank on something mainstream, but to express astonishment that they have no expertise on something that was never common in its heyday 25 years ago serves only to make you sound smug.

Oh dear it appears my post has been taken in a whole differing way, I wasn't being smug.

As I said i was just surprised I had to explain them to him. maybe I should have said why I was surprised at this as the last set of pads I got for it was from that very same lbs.

So nothing sinister and also as i said will it stop me going to that particular lbs, hell no I still will frequent it on a regular basis like a moth to the flame as they say and no doubt i will spend silly money on items as and when i go.

Been using it on and off now for near on 22 years.

I will add though that I thought this was Retrobike and most the topics discussed here are of items of 25 years old or more.

And ask if a mod can close this topic then as I seem to have offended some with this post and that was not my intention

Surprised Quins didnt know about them.... they do have some very knowledgeable characters in there, who have been in the game for a long time. Probably also have some young spotty herberts however

You've not offended me. You've put it out for discussion, and we've given our views.

 Fair enough

 My point exactly, wasn't about knowing something they don't as I say they probably forgot more than I ever knew. It was about being shocked that i had to explain to someone what they was as the last set of pads I had was from them.

But heyho i have them now so no big deal. Next time i need something they will still be one the 1st places i call.
