I need a new set of pads for my HS11's i know i can get them online but thought i will ring around my local shops to see if any had any in stock that i could just go get.

After i asked the guy the question he went, what are they never worked on them are they like Shimano v's

What i was more astounded at is this was a decent shop with a very long history i can only assume i got someone new or the yts lad, needless to say l ordered online now and gave up the goat of trying local

Re:

Ordered a set of black they do me only doing leisurely rides at the mo.

I was amazed though after I said they was hydro rim brakes his answer was i never worked on them. I should have asked if one the older guys was in but I was just so astounded, I thought ah sod it and ordered a set of Clarke's compatible pads from CRC for now.

And cheers glad to be back it just depressed me not riding with my ankle issue so just blotted everything out.

Re:

Where did you eventually get them online? I need some more for my HS22's soon.

LBS's  last time I asked for "cantilever" brake pads I was shown several types of "disc" brake pads and told "Cantilever? Never heard of that make of brake before....".

Re:

CRC as mentioned ;-) though discobrakes and others also do alternatives and originals.

They are very much still sold and in production.

I run a workshop that does around 900 repairs a month during the busy season, yet we probably only see HS series brakes 3 or 4 times a year (usually on some weird German hybrid ;-) ) so it's maybe not surprising that not everyone knows what they are any more. We don't stock Manitou elastomers either, and I can count the number Mavic wishbone shifters than we have in stock on the fingers of no hands ;-)

While i see your point.

I know a few shops that still stock them but charge silly money for them. But it wasn't the fact that they never stocked them, it was the fact the lad didn't have a clue I would understand if they was no longer manufactured but they are.

As i say i maybe should have asked for one the older guys in the shop but makes no odds now as they will be here soon enough

Just because they are still made doesn't mean that they have any relevance to typical LBS business any more. To play Devils Advocate, the 'YTS lad' might be a DH champion and can tell you the oil weights of a DVO Emerald fork without looking it up, or anything else regarding cutting edge technology that helps give the shop credibility.
