Raleigh Tourist Data

Senior Ryder

Retro Newbie
Hi folks,

The bike co-op where I volunteer has been donated a very nice Raleigh Tourist 3 speed. I'm curious as to when Raleigh started producing these rod braked, three speed bikes. The Surmey-Archer hub on this one has a '79 date code on it which indicates that it was one of the "bike boom" re-introductions. I'm hoping to use this info to promote the sale since our cash flow needs support at this time of year

Thanks & regards,

Van

Re:

Raleigh inroduced the 26 inch wheel 71 degree brazed up frames for 1938 season, with the new AW gear. The lower bottom bracket allowed the rider to stop in traffic with one foot on the ground. These quickly replaced the dreadful 28 inch wheel bolted up roadster frames, which were mostly far too large for the riders.

From memory you have probably one of the last Raleighs from nottingham.
