Retro Newbie
This is a classic Raleigh Road Ace from around 1988. It had belonged to my late brother and had been hanging up in my parents garage from 1997 until early this year when I renovated it. My parents had nearly taken this to the tip when they moved house. Good job I intervened!
For a bike that is about 24 years old it has not done that many miles. My brother used it to cycle to his girlfriend’s house and back (about a mile). It did a few bike rides but nothing over 25 miles. I would estimate that it has done less than 1000 miles in its lifetime.
Specification
Reynolds 531c frame and forks – blue and white in colour with adjustable horizontal dropouts. The frame has a few marks but this is to be expected for a bike of this age.
22.5 inch frame (56 cm)
Frame serial number - 00104759
Shimano 600 group set
· The brake callipers have a few minor marks but the brake levers are virtually unmarked.
· Chainset is in remarkably good condition – 42/52
· Rear & front derailleur (band) are unmarked
· Shimano 600 pedals with toe clips and White Christophe leather straps. The clips have some rust on
· Grey anodised Weinman rims with Stainless spokes & 600 hubs
· Classic Cinelli bars and stem – good as new
· Iscaselle leather saddle - No marks or scatches
· It still has the original grey handlebar tape on which has been cleaned up.
The bike is all original apart from the following recent additions
·A brand new Shimano Uniglide chain has been added as the old one had seized. The chain clips off easily for cleaning
· The Shimano 600 Uniglide cassette (13 -> 19) has been replaced – this was in a new condition and sourced from eBay (£30). Shimano 600 parts command quite a price on eBay
· New Panracer tyres have been added as the original tyres were no good. They are plain black with a very faint blue stripe. They complement the bike well.

The gears and new cassette were recently serviced at the M Steel bicycle shop (home of Joe Waugh) in Gosforth. The bike has been extensively cleaned and the components/rims look great.
The bike was originally bought from an official Raleigh dealer in Northumberland & has not been in an accident or had any damage. Everything still works.
Price £ 400
