Rare is a very different thing from desirable, I doubt the Carlton is 531 throughout, and the equipment on it looks like grey porridge stuff.

The Raleigh looks in great condition.

No doubt Spokesmann will be offended, but not everything Carlton made was great or even good.

Originality and condition are always good criteria to work with, keep an open mind and something nice will turn up.

Im not offended at all, as I'm well aware that there was lot of run of the mill stuff produced by the firm, that said these old bikes still have a lot of life left in them. Id always go for the Carlton, but Im slightly biased.

How big a frame do you need? the all look to vary quite a lot :?

I know it's tempting when something lovely crops up in the wrong size, but if you want to do more than ride to the pub on it then it's crucial to get a good fit.

I'm 6"1 bordering 2 so 23" and a little above would be fine.

I didn't buy the Carlton after, went for £80ish as said above, but I missed the sale! Probably would have bought it for that as the seller wanted £130 BIN.

It's so difficult picking a bike, but it looks like a gem is constantly popping up so I won't rush it.

If it doesn't go too much over my budget I may have to buy it. I know it's only 501 but it can't be that heavy, perfect size and nice colour scheme.

Haha, I am a giant! I have super long legs. It's only 23.5 " I was going to buy that Carlton which was 25"!!

What do you reckon its worth? I've never heard of the raleigh éclat, can't find any info on it.

Jesus it sold for £227.22 and it's only on a 501 frame with RX100 gears which aren't meant to be that good I believe...

I guess it's for the nice paintwork and the colour scheme. Way out of my price range though lol, I guess I'll have to purchase a cheapish 531 and work on it a bit
