we used to get basic alloys like that in for trueing with those cavernous gaps at the join all the time. a nightmare but that's the way they were made back then. quite often you'd see them smacked at the top of the join at the tyre's edge as folk wouldn't inflate the tyres properly and so the rims got smashed easily. if i remember rightly, the original rims were a black anodised weinmann rim.
