Raleigh Ravine - Replacement Headset

Hi,

I have a Raleigh Ravine, had it since new however decided to service the headset as it was really overdue.
After cleaning it all up, it doesn’t run smoothly at all, resorted to using loose ball bearings just to get it to be rideable.
Can anyone show advise me on a new headset that will work on the bike.
Here’s a photo of the original headset it’s 1/18 I think.
Enjoy working on bikes but got a lot to learn.

I would imagine the washers go on top first followed by the first threaded collar which can be hand tightened just until there's no play. The top threaded collar can then be tightened against it to prevent it from coming loose (but don't let the first one tighten any more, use 2 spanners).

EDIT *I may be wrong though as that first nut appears to be part of the black housing?

If the headset is too worn, you need a replacement.
It's inch and an eighth, threaded.

It should be installed with a headset press to get the cups totally aligned (otherwise it will wear out faster)
...and you'll need to swap the crown race off the fork. This takes a heavy shaped tube as a hammer to fit it perfectly aligned.

You can make a press tool that's 95% ok with threaded bar, some people do it by eye with blocks of wood and a hammer , otherwise pay a bike shop to install the cups and crown race.

Thanks, for your response. I’m going to buy the right tools and a decent headset and try and replace the headset myself.
I’m thinking of buying Tange Seiki Falcon 1 1/8" Threaded Headset which looks similar to the original headset that’s in the photo.
