This is the bike from my youth, I will never part with it but it has been neglected at the back of the shed. I’ve decided to give it some love and show it some respect.

It’s not actually in bad condition having rebuilt it when I had the shop but it’s a bit of a mosh mash of parts so I’m going to rebuild it with Shimano 600.

This is how it’s looking right now. Pretty clean but the saw dust adds a real barn find effect

I have most of the 600 parts for the build I’m just waiting on a NOS rear mech which I ordered from abroad

Today I cleaned the crank ready to go on when the rebuild starts.

The one without the rings looked to be in better condition so I polished that one up and fitted the rings from the other. The outer ring is a period DA I think the inner looks much more modern so I may look out for something a bit more period correct.

Took ages to clean but came up good.

I will most likely use the Royce crank bolts as I have a Royce BB fitted.

I was going to do a full strip and rebuild but have decided to swap bits here and there until it’s finished.

Today I replaced the Stronglight chainset for the 600ex, MKS pedals for some polished Time clip less (just because they look nice) and the Suntour gear levers for Shimano 600ex.

I was sure I had a Royce bottom bracket fitted but it turns out it’s Omas and in honesty it’s a tad on the short side so I’ll replace that one day.

Front mech cleaned and fitted. Took ages to clean what appeared to be a pretty clean mech! Thankfully I didn’t have to clean the rear as it is NOS

So that’s the drivetrain done, apart from the freewheel/ wheels. Think I might clean them up next.

Been busy with other stuff but finally got round to cleaning the back wheel!

I didn’t have the tool to remove the Gipiemme alloy block so had to clean it in-situ came out pretty good though. There’s very little wear to the anodising of the rim.
