Raleigh Mirage 1991 restomod

I remember a friend of mine had one of these, I had a Lizard at the time, bring back memories! Nice.

I gave the Raleigh a proper clean yesterday after a winter of hard use as my urban runabout. This is it in its current incarnation, with 1x7 and a shorter stem than before (I'm 5'11" and normally ride a large, this is a 23" frame). It needs a new chain and cassette, and a rear hub service, but otherwise it's going strong and still a blast to ride. I've even been riding it at the pump track with my kid! Its weight is its downfall however, 15kg is no fun going uphill.

What are people using to weigh their bikes? Fishing scales?

It’ll be quite heavy, I remember reading the catalogue back in the day when I was waiting for mine, makes me laugh now that they called it “light weight” at 31lbs

Re:

Nice, that looks spot on, prefer it in the earlier pics with the 3 chainrings on the front - 1 x looks a bit too modern to me - but that’s just my humble opinion.
The difference between the bike you started with and how it turned out is remarkable, so well done. I don’t normally like bar ends at all but yours suits them somehow..
Cool. :)

Thank you sir, glad you like it! I agree that bar ends don't look that great, but I absolutely love them. I even run them (Ergon GS3s) on my two modern MTBs. They're just a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. They give you so much freedom to move around the bike, and put you in a much more natural (road bike-like) position when hammering on the flat. I do 60% of my riding on them. Of course the world disagrees with me on this, but I'll run bar ends 'til I die!
