Raleigh M-Trax 7000R - 531, 23.5"

Retro Newbie
I bought this bike new in September 1995. Now it's the oldest of my four bikes, the others being a Bianchi, a Specialized Tricross and an Argon 18 Krypton. It's been surplus to my requirements ever since I bought the Tricross because that's now the bike I use when I don't want to get the carbon bike dirty. (The Bianchi lives upstairs on a turbo trainer.)

I've never wanted to let the M-Trax go to just anyone knowing nothing about bikes who would not appreciate it but just chuck it around. Silly to be sentimental about a bike but that's just the way it is. I recently had a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted, and the cardiologist who did it told me not to ride more than 10 miles at a time, and no gut-busting hill climbing either. Given that, it's hard to explain to my wife why I still need four bikes, so at the very least, the M-Trax has to go, and I'm hoping someone on this site may have use for a bike with a handbuilt 531 frame. When I try it after the carbon and alu framed bikes I'm still impressed by the ride quality (especially as the Gatorskins are 700-2:cool:.

It's not standard. For a start it has an old pair of SPDs fitted (don't ask). The brake levers are a pair of Shimano 600s (~Ultegra). The original calipers weren't very good so I replaced them with the unbranded ones that were on the Bianchi before I upgraded that bike to Ultegra. Unbranded they may be, but they work fine - much better than the originals.

It's a 52-42 chainset and the rear-mech is still the original Exage. The block is 11-13-15-18-22-26-34. I fitted the 34 in case I wanted to ride up the side of a house (if you're in your 60s you'll maybe know why I really fitted it).

I'm selling it complete, although I'll probably hang onto the saddle. I have no idea what to ask. Whatever the starting price it can possibly come down but it can never go up, so let's say I'm looking to get close to £150 (plus shipping costs if any). If you're within striking distance of the northern outskirts of Southampton, collection would be fine.

Re: Interest to buy

Hi there, I'd like to put an offer in for the asking price of £150 for the Raleigh M-trax you have posted. I shall be moving out soon and need a bike to cycle to work and around town with. I was recommended this bike through my parents who are both cycling mad. My mum has completed the Maratona, Raid Pyrenees and Raid Alpine in the last two years and my Dad is similarly interested. Your bike has also been given the seal of approval of my colleagues and boss (all five of us cycle to work) too (my boss is very impressed with the lugs and used to own a 513 frame). We share spare tyres, bike pump and team tube. I hope this assures you that the bike will be going to a good home!

Hoping to hear from you,

Max

Hi Max,
Assuming I've navigated the system correctly, you should be receiving a PM from me. Do let me know if you don't receive it and I'll try again.
Best regards,
Brian
