Raleigh Dynatech

I have a 25 year old Raleigh Dynatech 700 with the steel 2070 frame. The groupset is campag chrous. The wheels have campag chorus hubs and mavic open 4 CD rims.

Does anyone know how rare this version of the frame is and what it is worth to someone who is into this type of retro bike? The bike is in very good condition and I enjoy riding it so I have no plans to sell it.

It looks like this one http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=253976

Cheers

Re:

Nice bike!

Did you build it yourself or acquire it in that configuration? Your version of the Dynatech 700 frame was only available as a frameset, the built up bikes were a different colour scheme and had Shimano 600 components. Ive not seen too many about, I keep an eye on EBay for Dynatech bikes/frames and these rarely come up.

In good condition it would be worth £300-£400 I'd say, maybe £500 with a following wind. If it's a 21 inch (54cm) frame I might be interested!

Okay cheers for the price estimate. I have no plans to sell it but I was just wondering what it was worth. You are right the frameset was bought along with the chorus groupset and the bike was built up at home. When I looked in the 1990 catalogue it shows the dyantech 700 in a different colour ( with pink forks) and with the shimano groupset as you mention. I much prefer the white colour that I have but I would like to have the 7 speed set up rather then the 6 speed block I have on mine.
Does the built up version of the dyantech 700 with the pink forks have index shifting or did that come in a bit later?

The Dynatech 700 with the pink forks would have been 7 speed with indexed shifters (mine was based on a Dynatech 600 bike (the purple one) which had a Shimano 105 groupset with 7 speed indexed shifters) so there's no reason if you looked in the right place that you could find a 7 speed freewheel and some Campagnolo 7 speed indexed shifters. Getting 1980s Campagnolo indexing to work any sense is a labour of love, there are dozens of threads on here about it with varying levels of success. I have to say I have been lucky and have got it to work on both my Dynatech and my 1989 Raleigh 531C Race, both bikes use Athena rear dérailleurs, C Record Syncro II shifters and a variety of freewheels/cassettes/chains. For me the C Record rear dérailleur is a thing of beauty but wouldn't index to save its life.

Keep an eye on Ebay for some Syncro II shifters (like these nice C Record version for example) - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-NOS-8 ... 3cec8dc379

With a Chorus rear dérailleur you'll need the green insert for the left hand shifter like this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Campa ... 19fb430e28

Then find a 7 speed chain (I've used Regina, Shimano and SRAM 7 speed chains) and a compatible 7 speed freewheel, Shimano 7 speed freewheels/cassettes are the same spacing as Campagnolo, and then you can spend hours fine tuning and fettling! Again I've had success with Shimano 7 speed cassettes and Regina 7 speed freewheels on both my bikes.

These pages are well worth a read -

Okay cheers for the feedback. I just got the 13-28 6 speed block it was an upgrade from the 14-24 5 speed block that was on the bike originally, so that will have to do for the time being. The lowest gear with the 5 speed block was a 47" gear which made it really hard to get up steep hills so I upgraded to 6 speed. Maybe I should have got a 7speed block as this would work with my friction shifters.
