And a paint repair on the fork end that was rusty. Rubbed it back with some 80 grit on the dremel, then back to 400 grit (finest I had!), some primer, generic black top coat and a couple of coats of lacquer. Heat gun between coats as it’s freezing out there today.
It’s not perfect - but then neither was the original finish as can be seen on the side I haven’t done anything to.

Nice bit of sunshine encouraged me outside on my morning off. Progress on this one stalled in December, an inbound project has pushed me back in to action!

The DX kit is in great condition, had time for a good clean on the chainset today.

A few things I’m not 100% happy/sure about

- reflectors and wheel reflectors, still got them, just I’ve never kept them on any bike I’ve had.

- saddle - it seems even the humble Vetta is now either pricey for a decent one here in the UK or pricey to import from the US. This one was cheap and rough, I’ve given it a quick go over with leather paint but am looking out for a better one

- Vittoria tyres - nice, right colour walls, absolute bugger to fit, would be impossible to fix a puncture roadside. I had to use 2 levers as well as a Cyclepal tool to get them on. Only bought it after nipping the inner tubes when using levers. Slippery buggers

- pedals I’ve painted the cages as these were rough, not sure how to get the white infill part right. At the moment I’ve masked close to it but there are parts that aren’t black in the infill part. How do you do this? Paint it all black then fill in? Don’t think I’m up to that sort of detail!

- O-rings on the QR end are perished - I’ll probably measure and replace but on the off chance does anyone know the size/ best source for these?

The decals would suggest this is a 1990 model BTW, same as mine. Agree, Vetta saddles are hard to come by in decent condition for reasonable money. There's plenty of suppliers of o-rings on eBay, got some for a few different skewer types previously. May take a few buys to get them spot on but they don't generally cost very much.

DynaCol, thanks, it’s great to hear from someone who can pin it down! I think you’re right, though I think I’ve seen two different versions of the date code list. One version said A = 1990 and the other A = 1991. My 1991 catalogue has different decals to this bike. I’ve amended the title and reference to the date. Second time this week I’ve been out by a year! The other was on the MF Courier I’m working on. It’s not much but it can make a difference in terms of equipment etc.

I’ve dug out my digital caliper to measure the o-ring, was trying to avoid this as it’s squishy and as I thought there are loads of possibilities within a fraction of a millimetre! I’ve gone with 14mm ID and 4mm cross section, 50 for £6.60 delivered! I did see some for almost that much for a pair on eBay with a reference to Shimano, you can guess who it is selling them - it grinds me a bit but hats off to them if I were going to try and make a living and rinse every penny from something that’s the way to do it!

If they are the right size I’ll send the spares out to anyone who needs them for price of a stamp.
