Raleigh Dyna Tech appreciation and information thread

I can see how you’ve arrived at that as yours does have an A on the bottom bracket. I’m not an expert but I think this covers Dyna-Tech, M-Trax and then the RSP brands. They appear in sequence on bottom bracket (at least they do on the bikes I’ve got!) So would expect to see the A immediately followed by 5 numbers.

I’ve got a 1994 bike the only one I could get the camera to bottom bracket of

Anyway, I like the look of the one you’ve got. Reminds me of my M-Trax from moons ago, can’t go wrong for what you paid for it. What’s the plan?
I'm probably going to rebuild it period correct parts where possible, in regards to the frame number in at a complete loss as everything I've read online doesn't match 100% to what I've got. I agree that it does look like some of the m-trax that are shown but when you look closely there is usually something slightly different, there is a Raleigh for sale on eBay that looks to be an identical frame but as it's been resprayed it doesn't help either way. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25527446...6xZTE5ETmu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

That one on eBay is a different bike.

When I’m trying to identify any bike whether it’s a Raleigh or any other brand, I look at the type of lugs; seat post cluster; dropout type; rear brake stay/cable arrangement; tubing type (though this can just be a sticker). There’s other stuff as well.

In the case of the bike in the advert vs your bike, it does have the same/similar rear brake bridge but the lugs are bonded, yours are brazed type. Doesn’t seem like a lot but identifies it as a different type of construction.

Think ourselves lucky - it’s relatively easy in our bike world. My dad used to collect Lambrettas - that world has so many variations of the same thing and tiny differences that can be £ks difference not to mention folk who fake forge and change stuff to make it appear to be rarer. He’d spend hours looking over a scoot only to decide it had some detail or other that made it something it wasn’t!

I understand that being a bit of a petrol head, I can tell with some cars if there the real deal or not, regarding my Raleigh I'm just going to enjoy it, whether it's a dynatech, m-trax or a repainted Raleigh lizard it was extremely cheap and surely there can't be that many around

I think it’s in that era of Raleigh catalogues that no one has got!

Consensus seems to be they are from 1993 and were specced with Deore LX of that era. Was the Kalahari the one with a Flexstem?

I have picked up a Rockshox ltd edition with Altus and exage group set just wanted to find out more about the build spec can’t find any catalog info at all

Just joined the forum as I have a Dyna Tech 19" polished Torus frame hanging in my garage that used to be my race bike back in the 90's. I was going to sell but am now thinking to building it back up. I bought it in 1996/7 I think.... can't remember as I am getting on now, I remember it costing £650.00 as I had it polished, extra 50 quid, took me forever to save for it. I built it with carbon leg Amp Researh forks, Hope Hubs, Chris King no threadset, Royce BB with XT and Suntour microdrive chainset. It came in at a touch below 19lbs which in those days was light.

A question if I may? Could someone point me in the right direction of finding its age etc, I may retro it or turn it into a gravel bike.... Will add some photos when I can work out how.
